The First Contact:
When someone loses their pet, it is important that they utilize any and all
possible resources. There is significant evidence that shows the greater the
effort by the pet owner, the much greater the chance of actual recovery. During that initial conversation, I will assess the circumstances
surrounding the loss of your pet, assess possible options for detection and
recovery, and explain the opportunities and/or limitations imposed by the
services that I can offer.

In a nutshell, Detect and Reunite Services involve the
processes of formulating a search strategy, performing some type of physical
search, utilizing technical equipment, and in the event that the pet is not
found during the initial search, the formation of a post-search recovery
plan.
Detect and Reunite Service may include the following:
A. Respond to the Animals Home Territory
All searches need a starting point. For a lost pet, that is the location from
where it was lost, like its home territory. From that point, I can interview the
pet owner and start to formulate a search strategy.
B. Conduct an In-person Interview with the Pet Owner/Family
The science of finding a lost pet is based on knowing the personality of the
animal being sought. There are numerous possible scenarios for where a pet might
be and a substantial number of methods available for detection. By interviewing
the pet owner and by asking the right questions, I will have the necessary
information to formulate a solid search plan.
C. Formation of the Search Plan
A search plan that will yield success will take into account many factors about
the circumstances surrounding the loss of the pet, along with the personality of
the pet, and environmental influences. High probability areas and the
probability of detection will be considered. These elements will be discussed
with the pet owner, and then the search plan can be set into action.
D. Probability of Area & Detection
Before the search begins, I will explain where I plan to search, why I plan to
search those areas, the tactics being used, and the limitations upon actual
detection.
E. Perform a Physical Search
There are many different types of search methods that range from a fast moving
superficial search to one of a slow meticulous inch-by-inch inspection. The type
of search will be matched to the characteristics of the particular case. During
the search, I will be looking for clues, evidence, and collecting samples when
found. Immediate neighbors may be interviewed and witness development may be
pursued. High-tech equipment may be utilized.
F. Post-Search Review and Recovery Planning
Sometimes pets are not initially found during the initial physical search.
Therefore, at the conclusion of the search, the clues and evidence will be
reviewed with the pet owner, and a detailed discussion will take place about on
going options for recovery.

A well trained and skilled search dog can be a powerful asset in
locating a lost pet. [top]
Surveillance can take on various forms. Depending on the
need and the situation, I can conduct direct surveillance – a stake-out for a
missing pet – or utilize specialized technical equipment, like cameras and
motion sensors to record the presence of an elusive animal. In many cases,
surveillance is an effective technique in initialing bringing clues to your pets
whereabouts.

Trap and Reunite services involve the use of a humane live
trap, that brings absolutely no harm to any animals, to recover a lost pet.
Trapping is a very successful technique for cats and other small animals.
Typically, one or more traps are placed in key locations where the lost pet
is most likely to be hiding or roaming.
A. Trap Rental
With this service, I will provide the pet owner with one or more traps, as they
desire, along with clear instructions for baiting, setting, and monitoring the
trap. With this service, the pet owner assumes responsibility for the daily
monitoring and setting of the trap.
B. Trap Rental with Assistance
This option provides all the services that go along with the standard Trap
Rental, however, the trap will be baited, set, and checked by me on an agreed
upon schedule. This could be a benefit to the pet owner if they are unable to prepare or
check the trap at the appropriate times of day due to other commitments or
limitations.
C. Monitoring Equipment Rental
With any of the Trapping services, the pet owner has the option of requesting
monitoring equipment so that activity near the trap can be communicated back to
the pet owner while they wait patiently in their home without having to go to the trap
and possibly disturb an approaching pet.
If you have any questions about the benefits of humane live trapping, please
give me a call. I would be pleased to explain the many advantages that this
technique offers for recovering a lost pet.

Getting information out to the public about your lost pet is
critical. The public can provide valuable information about Direction of
Travel or possibly even recover your lost pet. However, if they have no
information for contacting a pet owner, a reunion becomes much more
difficult. Flyers provide a means to alert the public and tell the public
who to contact when they see or recover your pet.
A. Flyer Creation
Flyers are printed on standard letter sized (8.5 x 11) paper. Vital information
about your lost pet, a picture, and contact information is included. With
information from the pet owner, I can quickly create a flyer and have a copy
ready for mass printing and distribution.
B. Flyer Printing
Once a flyer is created, multiple copies are needed quickly for distribution. As
an aid to the busy pet owner I can have copies printed and delivered to the pet
owner.
C. Flyer Distribution
Getting flyers out into the public involves time and legwork. I can assist the
pet owner to distribute flyers in key areas where their lost pet is likely to be
seen. The task of visiting neighbors, talking to pedestrians, and passing out
flyers will help get the word out about your lost pet and improve your chances
of recovery.

Posters constructed with eye-catching bright and vibrant
colors, have the ability to grab the attention of hundreds of people passing
by on a daily basis. They are usually placed at key intersections where your
lost pet could have traveled, been seen, or even recovered. Posters in
addition to flyers improve your chances of recovery.
A. Posters Available for Purchase
I have large, preprinted Coroplast™ posters available and ready
to go on a moment's notice. Coroplast™ is a plastic type material and is the same
material used to make political signs that dot the landscape at election time.
Because it’s plastic, it is impervious to the weather. I have seen these posters
last for months, completely unaffected by the weather. You will have peace of
mind knowing that your posters have longevity and will provide maximum exposure
to the public’s eye until your pet is safely home.
B. Poster Distribution
Posters can be essential for success. I can assist the pet owner with
distributing posters in key areas where their lost pet is likely to be seen. The
public is omnipresent -- continuously present everywhere -- and is a
valuable resource which can be utilized through effective poster placement.
